My first experience on a Native American reservation will never leave my heart. We were able to travel home to home, giving water to families that don't have access to any kind of water supply or access to a water supply, but one that is not sanitary. Gallons of water were poured out for each family, but there was so much more to it than just delivering water to the families.
We prayed with them and shared our Love of Christ with them. We had personal encounters with some of the poorest people in the area. Seeing the poor condition that they were in, made me realize how fortunate and blessed we are back home in Louisiana. We are too materialistic and want the latest thing the world has to offer us, but...these people just want the basic necessities of life. They just want to survive another day, as we are spoiled and take our life and the things in our life for granted. It's time to wake up as Christians and hear the call of our brothers and sisters who are suffering among us. We have to pray that God helps all of us to share His love with those caught in the struggles of life.
But...after all of the struggling and suffering, there is HOPE at the end!
"Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.
Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.
Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven."
Luke 6:20-21, 23
Though we might not suffer in poverty, the way they do, we still suffer from various other things. Let us be reminded that there is beauty in all of our sufferings. It doesn't matter if the cross we carry is big or small, what matters is that it's worth carrying because our Lord, Jesus Christ, already paid the price, by suffering and dying on the cross for us.
So, let us rejoice in our sufferings because by enduring it, God will reward us more than we could ever imagine!
